by retm-w October 25, 2010 9:28 PM EDT Can't produce aluminum, steel or other metal products anymore due to the dems EPA regulations. The enviromental equipment is to costly to install and maintain. That's why we import most of our steel, castings and aluminum. You think the republicans are the only ones to blame for jobs going offshore, better give the tree hugging liberals they're fair share of the blame.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I have to answer this one. Foundry work moved to countries like India because there are no laws to protect workers. I seen a picture of one of these foundries. A worker was carrying scrap through a plant with no shoes on. The People of the United States need to ask themselves if they find that type of work environment acceptable here. We can have that work easy. Throw the trade barriers up and prevent the neocon republicans from taking advantage of desperation in third world countries and the work will be back.

Hey no OSHA or EPA regulations saves a company a lot of money. Ford is closing their foundry in Cleveland in December and the work is going to Brazil. To costly for them to upgrade their envirmental equipment, cheaper to go to a country that doesn't have those regulations. It's not always about labor costs.

The Democratics (elected in 2006) took control in 2007. It's been down hill ever since. The financial crisis began in 2007. The roots of the crisis can be traced directly to sub-prime lending by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, which are government sponsored entities (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Financial_crisis_of_2007%E2%80%932010). The hugh bailouts and stimulus to Unions and banks didn't save the private sector jobs. Most of the stimulus money went to protect public sector jobs. Private industry is shrinking, expect many more job loses. Public jobs are on the rise, expect higher taxes.

I guess you forgot about the "republican utopia" they created that lost republicans control of both houses in 2006. The housing crisis was economic engineering. They knew the loans were bad and bought hedge funds and derivatives against them. They wanted them to fail. It was like knowing what the winning lottery numbers would be. All they had to do is wait for the failure and payoff. That's why TARP was needed. The bet was so big there wasn't enough money in circulation for the pay off. The entire country was looted and not one single person has been arrested .

BTW republicans have grown the worst kind of government at the state and local levels. Property taxes will be going through the roof to support those jobs. Republicans are spreading communism because it falls in line with corporate kindoms. The king owns all. So long as we have to pay property taxes we will never own our homes or businesses. As for businesses hiring many are backing up with work. They are holding out until after the election to hire.

re: rightbehind; The true story about Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac along with Barney Frank is being revealed. You'll read about it soon. BTW, the 1.6 million-member American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees is, for now, the biggest outside spender of the 2010 elections, according to the Wall Street Journal. And America?s unions, which are among Obama?s biggest political backers, rake in foreign money by the bushel.

China and the chamber of commerce must pouring money into Ohio elections. The republicans are running attack ads 10 to 1 against the democrats. Our Founding Fathers warned about foreign influence in our government and considered it treason.

Wonder who's paying for the dems attack adds in Ohio, looks like about 50/50 to me, don't know where your getting 10 to 1. Actually I've seen about 5 to 1 from do nothing strickland. I see a lot of the dems adds from groups I have never heard of.

I counted them. The republican ads are running almost 10 to 1. The news is getting biased in a big way because of all the cash rolling in.

If we can throw out the illegal votes of the former ACORN group, the Republicans would take almost all states. There are so many crooked people in that organization that I am ashamed this is happening in America. There are even people who are scaring off the Republicans and others at the poll places. Then there are people in he Dem party going door to door asking if the people need rides to the polling places (will they be putting pressure on these individuals while driving to the polls to vote a certain way?). Don't say that the foreign govts. are putting money on the Republicans because you are absolutely incorrect. Just because you Dems seem to be losing why invent lies? The Dems in Washington DC are destroying our country and don't blame it on Bush. Obama Reid & Comrade Pelois have stripped our treasury by throwing our taxpayers money away. China owns the U.S. now; they love the Dems.

The core idea shared by the cons/tbags/GOP that big government weakens the nation is completely bogus... I offer as an example the TVA (tennessee valley authority) which was a massive government spending project during the 30's. FDR and the liberal democrats passed this as part of the New Deal to help create work for the unemployed. The republicans were die-hard against this project, and fought their guts out fighting it. Thank GOD they lost. Jumping ahead a few years-- During WWII the United States produced more combat aircraft than any other nation, allied or axis... See: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Military_production_during_World_War_II#Aircraft WHERE DID ALL OF THE ALUMINUM for these aircraft come from?? I'm glad you asked... --From Wikipedia?During World War II, the U.S. needed aluminum to build airplanes. Aluminum plants required huge amounts of electricity, and to provide the power, TVA engaged in one of the largest hydropower construction programs ever undertaken in the U.S. Early in 1942, when the effort reached its peak, 12 hydroelectric plants and one steam plant were under construction at the same time, and design and construction employment reached a total of 28,000. The largest project of this period was the Fontana Dam Project. After negotiations led by Harry Truman ("I want aluminum. I don't care if I get it from Alcoa or Al Capone."), TVA purchased the land from Nantahala Power and Light, a wholly owned subsidiary of Alcoa, and built Fontana Dam.?Electricity from Fontana was intended for Alcoa factories. By the time the dam generated power in early 1945, the electricity was used for another purpose in addition to aluminum manufacturing. TVA also provided much of the electricity needed for uranium enrichment at Oak Ridge, Tennessee, as required for the Manhattan Project. SO THERE IT IS FOLKS... Prodigious quantities of hydro-electric power for both the production of the aluminum required for military aircraft used to fight for and gain air superiority in Europe and the Pacific AND the enrichment of the Uranium required for the Manhatten Project and the production of the atomic bomb... NONE OF WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN POSSIBLE had the republicans gotten their way...

The poorest analysis I have yet to read. Narrow House majority, indeed. The Senate isn't quite as bad- 5 seats seems a little lower than the minimum gain, and 10 is likely the high. Most analysts with a reputation for accuracy are in the 7-8 range.

Great, another "politics as a horse race" story. How about issues? Honestly, it doesn't matter to me which party is ahead. What matters is governance.

Actually didn't get that from fox, I got that from a lot of your fellow liberal posters. "Business's aren't hiring so they can get the repubs elected". I don't even watch cable news, just the nightly news on CBS. Couldn't care less who get's elected repubs or dems, nothing will change.

Been a while since I watched the news on TV. The republican attack ads were running almost 10 to 1 against the democrats. Just think of the money they could have paid to employees by just giving them a fair break instead of spending it on politicians. I guess China is getting its moneys worth from republicans. I'm going to send the chamber of commerce packing next time they show up at my door.

Speaking of the Chamber of Commerce.....the POTUS was RIGHT when he said Foreign money was being used. Rove/FOX caught in a BIG lie! ............US Senate climate change deniers and Tea Party favourites including Jim DeMint and James Inhofe are being funded by BP and other polluters. BP and several other big European companies are funding the midterm election campaigns of Tea Party favourites who deny the existence of global warming or oppose Barack Obama's energy agenda, the Guardian has learned. An analysis of campaign finance by Climate Action Network Europe (Cane) found nearly 80% of campaign donations from a number of major European firms were directed towards senators who blocked action on climate change. These included incumbents who have been embraced by the Tea Party such as Jim DeMint, a Republican from South Carolina, and the notorious climate change denier James Inhofe, a Republican from Oklahoma. The report, released tomorrow, used information on the Open Secrets.org database to track what it called a co-ordinated attempt by some of Europe's biggest polluters to influence the US midterms. It said: "The European companies are funding almost exclusively Senate candidates who have been outspoken in their opposition to comprehensive climate policy in the US and candidates who actively deny the scientific consensus that climate change is happening and is caused by people." Obama and Democrats have accused corporate interests and anonymous donors of trying to hijack the midterms by funnelling money to the Chamber of Commerce and to conservative Tea Party groups. The Chamber of Commerce reportedly has raised $75m (?47m) for pro-business, mainly Republican candidates. The foreign corporate interest in America's midterms is not restricted to Europe. A report by ThinkProgress, operated by the Centre for American Progress, tracked donations to the Chamber of Commerce from a number of Indian and Middle Eastern oil coal and electricity companies. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2010/oct/24/tea-party-climate-change-deniers
